The police department of this city shall consist of a chief of police and such number of regular law enforcement officers as shall be appointed as provided by K.S.A. 15-204 and amendments thereto.

The chief of police and sworn law officers of the city shall have the powers of arrest as outlined in K.S.A. 22-2401. Laws of Arrest.

All persons arrested for violations of city ordinances or certain misdemeanors may, in lieu of confinement in county jail, be served with a Notice to Appear in city municipal court on a given date. All felony cases will be forwarded to the Linn County Attorney’s office for prosecution in district court.

The chief of police shall have power to make such rules and regulations as may be necessary for the proper and efficient conduct of the department. Such rules and regulations shall be approved by the governing body.
